This news is pretty remarkable. Melanotan one, "afamelanotide" is the first drug that actually causes one's skin to tan without need for UV exposure and the tan is a true melanin tan that fades like any normal tan would fade. This article is really interesting, thanks for the pointer!

The "suntan drug" melanotan-1 (afamelanotide / Scenesse) has been approved to as a drug to develop photoprotective pigmentation in those afflicted with the orphan disease erythropoietic protoporphyria. This stimulated pigmentation creates a barrier to block the light rays that cause the painful photosensitivity that these folks experience from the affliction.
